Grants of up to $8,000 and grants of up to $30,000 to eligible El Dorado County, California nonprofit organizations to address the needs of the community. Eligible nonprofits must provide their services to communities on the western slope of El Dorado County (El Dorado Hills to Silver Fork).

Three types of grants are available:

Inspiration Grants: 

Inspiration Grants do not have a specific focus, thereby inspiring nonprofits to identify and address our community’s most pressing needs. 

Acorn Grants: 

Acorn grants will be awarded to nonprofit organizations that have not previously received a grant from the WFED. New and established nonprofits are encouraged to apply. 

Impact Grants: 

Impact Grants will be awarded to nonprofit organizations offering direct impacts on the western slope of El Dorado County. This includes but is not limited to human services, such as those pertaining to mental or physical health, education, youth development, or services to children, families or seniors, arts, community beautification, animal welfare, or community development.

Two Inspiration Grants, three Acorn Grants, and three Impact Grants will be awarded.

Inspiration Grants: Up to $30,000
Acorn Grants: Up to $8,000
Impact Grants: Up to $8,000

Term of Contract:

This grant period runs from June 1, 2020 through May 31, 2021. All grant monies must be expended by May 31, 2021. If an organization does not anticipate expending all funds by May 31, 2021, they must request an extension in advance or possibly return funds to Women’s Fund El Dorado.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Funding is available to Nonprofit Organizations 501(c)(3), Schools, Churches, and Service Organizations that meet the following criteria:
- Have a nonprofit status
- Have a physical location on the western slope of El Dorado County (El Dorado Hills to Silver Fork)
- Provide services to the western slope of El Dorado County

If a nonprofit does not have an established western slope office, it may collaborate or partner with a qualifying organization. The qualifying nonprofit must serve as the grant applicant and the program/project’s fiscal agent.

Not funded:
- Research (medical or otherwise)
- Operating deficits/retirement of existing debt
- For-profit organizations
- Individuals, for any purpose
- Religious organizations unless religious teachings are not a prerequisite to receiving services.
- Scholarships for a named individual, although scholarship funds may receive grants
- Endowments
- Nonprofit organizations not operating within the western slope of El Dorado County Political nonprofits

Pre-proposal Conference:

Applicants are encouraged to join the Grants Committee for the annual Grant Applicant Workshop.

Attendees will gain insight to the WFED grant process.

Pre-Application Information:


-November 1, 2019 Request for Proposals are sent by email to all nonprofits on the western slope of El Dorado County.
-Grant Applicant Workshop will be held on November 14, 2019, from 10:00 AM to noon at EDCOE, Room B2, 6767 Green Valley Road, Placerville. All nonprofits on the western slope of El Dorado County are invited to attend. An introduction to the Women’s Fund El Dorado organization is provided, Requests for Proposal are reviewed, and any questions are answered.

- Grant proposals are due by 11:59 PM on December 3, 2019.

- Site-Visit Committee continues their outreach and visits to 2019 grant recipients.
- January 13, 2019 Grants Committee meets to set 2019 Ballot.
- January 16, 2019 Notifications to ballot finalist to prepare presentation for February 6 Ballot Showcase.

- February 6, 2020 Ballot Showcase event - ballot finalists will be expected to attend.
- February 6, 2020 Ballot to all paid WFED members after event.
- February 29, 2020 WFED Grant Voting Closes Today

- March 12, 2019 Notification letters/emails to grant applicants.
- March 16, 2019 Grant recipients announced to WFED membership.

- Site Visit Committee concludes its visits to 2019 grant recipients and provides a report to the Cabinet. Reports are placed on the website.
April 30, 2020 Grants Gala is held to celebrate the accomplishments of the 2019 recipients and formally award the 2020 grant recipients.

- Checks are distributed from the El Dorado Community Foundation directly to the grantees
- Grant applicants selected for the WFED ballot will be expected to attend the Ballot Showcase event on February 6, 2020 at 5:00 PM.
- All grant applicants will be notified if your application has been selected for the WFED ballot via email on January 16, 2020.

After receiving a grant in a prior year there is NO “sit out” from the grant process the following year; however, nonprofits that have been selected and awarded grant funding for two consecutive years will sit out of the WFED grant cycle for one year and will be eligible to reapply the following year.
