Grants ranging from $5,000 to $50,000 to California nonprofits and schools that address the needs of at-risk children and young adults in the Sacramento and Central Valley regions. Funded programs should specifically address the areas of literacy and transition-age foster youth. Priorities for these two areas are outlined below.
1. Literacy: Programs that help children and young people learn to read, improve their reading comprehension, and improve their school performance.
2. Transition-Age Foster Youth: Programs that provide bridge services, assistance, and opportunities for young people between the ages of 16 and 24 who are, or have been, in foster care.

Grant awards will range from $5,000 to $50,000.
This grant cycle funds activity from July 2018 - June 2019.
Eligible nonprofits are those that primarily serve residents within:
- The Central Valley (Fresno, Kings, and Madera Counties); or
- The Sacramento Valley (Sacramento, Placer, Yolo, and El Dorado Counties).
Public schools are eligible to apply if their proposed project meets one of the defined priority needs described in this RFP packet.
Golden 1 applauds cost-saving collaborations and welcomes proposals from more than one program being provided support by a fiscal sponsor.
Proposals will be accepted from January 16 through February 28, 2018, by midnight. Award announcements will be on Friday, June 29, 2018.
Awards will be paid in two payments. Payment 1 will be awarded by July 31, 2018. Payment 2 will be awarded by December 31, 2018, contingent upon completion of a status report in October 2018.
