Grants of up to $1,000 as well as in-kind services to USA organizations for programs and projects that make people and programs safer. Funding is specifically intended to support proposals that focus on the areas of aquatic safety, child abuse prevention, transportation safety, employee safety, and emergency preparedness. These focus areas come from years of experience and data that have helped identify the best ways to promote safety.

The Redwoods Group prefers to support efforts that do at least one of the following:

- Eliminate a known risk (e.g. Stopping the use of a 12- or 15-passenger van)
- Enable safer practices (e.g. Provide life jackets for all non-swimmers at a pool)
- Positively change safety behaviors (e.g. Implementing more effective lifeguard drills)
- Increase education and awareness about risks (e.g. Community child sexual abuse prevention education)

The Redwoods Group looks for:

- The data and evidence behind the proposed solution or theory of change: The focus areas come from years of investigating the causes of injuries and deaths in child-serving programs. The solutions we support are supported by data and targeted at the key levers for changing those outcomes.

- The ability of the program or project to protect those most at risk and most in need: In many of these issue areas, children in low-income communities face the highest risks. The Redwoods Group aims to fund projects that will reach the populations that have the greatest preventive needs.

- The measurable results expected from implementation: All grantees are required to list the expected outcomes in their request and then follow up with us after implementation to let us know what outcomes were achieved.

- The sustainability of the program or project’s impact on the organization or community.

The Redwoods Group provides non-financial sources of capital, such as in-kind consulting and staff training, as well as financial/cash grants. Further details are provided below.

In-kind service grants include:

- Human Capital: The Redwoods Group and its staff serve in these ways: providing direct safety consultations, trainings and audits for child-serving agencies; providing strategic and operational support to collaborative networks working to bring positive safety solutions to scale; and supporting ongoing or one-time community service projects.

- Intellectual Capital: Most safety materials are available for free at Redwoods Group aims to share their content with child-serving nonprofits who can use it to better protect the kids they serve.

- Social Capital: When the Redwoods Group has applicants and partners who can do more powerful work together, the Redwoods Group makes introductions and supports the collaborative process. They also seek to engage a broad range of partner organizations in the work they do so that they can have a bigger impact.

- Physical Capital: The Redwoods Group's office includes a classroom, meeting room, and desk space that is made available to nonprofits free of charge.

Financial Grants:
