06/03/20 Receipt by End of Day - For Education and Health and Human Services Only
Grants of up to $10,000 to California and Oregon nonprofit organizations in eligible regions for activities in the focus areas of environment, health and human services, arts and culture, and education. Funding may be requested for specific projects and for general support. This grant program is available for nonprofits doing work in Bay Area and the Greater Portland area.
The Board selects new grant focuses in each of the four categories (Arts and Culture, Education, Environment, and Health and Human Services) yearly. Applicants are advised to visit the Foundation's website regularly.
As of 2020, Education grants will be awarded in the Fall and Environment grants will be awarded in the Spring. Deadlines for LOIs have shifted to be consistent with this change.
Health and Human Services:
The Foundation supports direct services and programs that serve the elderly population to improve their ability to live independently, safely, and comfortably in their own home and community. Organizations that work directly with the elderly population will be given priority consideration. Example programs include: meals or grocery shopping assistance, food as medicine education and programs, transportation to appointments, home modifications, assistive technologies, housing assistance, etc.
Please note that grant recipients who received grant awards from us in this focus area each year for the last 3 consecutive years (2017, 2018, 2019) are not eligible for a grant in 2020. You will be eligible to reapply in 2021. The Foundation intends to award grants for paid internships at nonprofits for college undergraduate and/or graduate students (grants distributed in 2020 may be utilized for 2021 internships as needed). These internships must provide an above minimum wage stipend. The internship experience should include enrichment opportunities which may include skill building, visibility into how a nonprofit functions, peer networking, professional seminars, capstone project/report, etc. Average size grants in this area of focus are $5,000-$8,000 per internship. You are welcome to request funding for more than one internship in an application.
Arts & Culture:
The Foundation intends to award one year grants of up to $10,000 each to nonprofits that provide music lessons for underprivileged youth in K-12 grades who don't have access. Priority will be given to programs that: follow/track their students through multiple years, have the ability to work with students from different cultures, and provide free education or scholarships to participate.
The Foundation intends to award $10,000 grants to nonprofits working to mitigate the effects of climate change. Our priority is focused on projects that create healthy resilient forests and/or watersheds that maintain or increase biodiversity. Projects should be located in the San Francisco Bay Area or in Western Oregon.
