Description:

Request a Grant Writer

Grants to California institutions and agencies in eligible regions for sustainable programs to address the medical, physical, mental, and developmental health needs of underserved children and youth. Priority will be given to requests supporting health and wellness in the areas of mental, emotional, or behavioral health and childhood obesity prevention. Eligible applicants services to children ages 0 through 17 who reside in San Diego or Imperial County.

Rest Haven is happy to announce that Rest Haven will once again consider making available one-time grants to agencies in San Diego or Imperial Counties who are trying to increase their capacity to provide health care to improve the physical, medical, developmental and mental health needs of children, ages 0 through 17.

In an attempt to make an impact in some of the areas of greatest need in the community, Rest Haven will give priority to those requests that support health and wellness in the areas of Mental, Emotional or Behavioral Health, and Childhood Obesity Prevention.

The intent of these one-time grants is to support the expansion of an existing program, support a new program or support the acquisition of equipment that will be used to enhance children's health needs.

Consideration will be given to those requests that demonstrate the following:

  • Identified community need
  • Ability to increase their capacity to meet that need
  • Outreach to under-served children
  • Sustainability of the project

As these are only one-time grants, it is critical that there must be a demonstrated plan to sustain the program for which those funds are being requested for, beyond the year the grant is awarded or funding will not be considered.

Priority consideration will also be given to those agencies who, as part of their request, are seeking matching funds from other funding sources or are requesting matching funds for partial funds already committed for the same grant request being made of Rest Haven.

Number of Grants:

Rest Haven has historically provided anywhere from 8 to 18 grants in any given year.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Historically, Rest Haven has awarded $200,000 in gifts annually to multiple recipients. The request amount should be based on the need but not over the maximum amount Rest Haven is granting for that year.

Term of Contract:

As funding allows, these one-time grants are available on a competitive basis with grant monies being awarded in August for expenditure commencing September 1. All funds must be expended by August 31 of the following year. Grant awards can be for up to a period of one year. If grant funds are being requested to support a project that extends over a period of more than one year, a multi-year grant may be requested.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Any agency or entity providing services to children ages 0 through 17 who reside in San Diego or Imperial County and who share Rest Haven’s mission can submit a request on behalf of the agency. The Cover Letter must be signed by the person with legal authority to bind the agency.

Rest Haven will not fund salaries unless sustainability of the program for which the salaries are being requested can be demonstrated beyond the one year grant period. Rest Haven will not fund any fringe benefits.

Rest Haven will not fund general program operating support. A Rest Haven grant is not meant to be used for general support when other funds supporting the program have been or will be cut. However, overhead in the form of salaries may be funded if sustainability is demonstrated.

Rest Haven will not fund brick and mortar or provide funds for a capital improvement campaign.

Agencies are discouraged from submitting grant requests for the same need or program the following year after funding is awarded. Agencies can submit a grant request for a different need or program the following year.

Pre-Application Information:

All grant requests must be sent both electronically and through the postal service. Both must be postmarked by May 13, 2022 in order to be considered.

All grant requests will be reviewed through a board committee process and approved by the full Board of Directors. All applicants will be notified electronically via email during the month of August as to the status of their grant request.

For those agencies seeking matching funds, Rest Haven funds will be disbursed only after receiving written notice that matching funds have been secured. Matching funds must be secured no later than November 30, 2022 or Rest Haven Grant funds awarded will no longer be available.
