Rest Haven Children’s Health Fund

Deadline Date:

Description:

Request a Grant Writer

Grants to California agencies in eligible regions for health-related programs helping under-served children. Priority will be given to programs that focus on mental, behavioral, or emotional health, or childhood obesity prevention for children up to age 17. Funding is intended to expand an existing program, support a new program, or support the acquisition of equipment to enhance children's health needs. Eligible regions include San Diego and Imperial counties.

Consideration will be given to those requests that demonstrate the following:

  • Identified community need
  • Ability to increase their capacity to meet that need
  • Outreach to under-served children
  • Sustainability of the project

Rest Haven will once again consider making available one-time grants to agencies in San Diego or Imperial Counties who are trying to increase their capacity to provide health care to improve the physical, medical, developmental and mental health needs of children, ages 0 through 17. However, due to the impact COVID 19 continues to have on communities and the availability of limited funds, the Rest Haven Board of Directors maintains the discretion to use any portion of the funds intended for grants in alternative ways to support children during this crisis.

Number of Grants:

Rest Haven has historically provided anywhere from 8 to 18 grants in any given year.

Estimated Size of Grant:

As the crisis continues to evolve daily, emergency needs may arise that the Board will want to lend support to and, therefore, the amount available to grant this year may be less than years before.

Term of Contract:

- Grant awards can be for up to a period of one year. These one-time grants are available on a competitive basis with grant monies being awarded in August for expenditure commencing September 1. All funds must be expended by August 31 of the following year.
- If grant funds are being requested to support a project that extends over a period of more than one year, a multi-year grant may be requested.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Eligibility: Any agency or entity providing services to children ages 0 through 17 and sharing Rest Haven’s mission can submit a request on behalf of the agency. The Cover Letter must be signed by the person with legal authority to bind the agency.

Rest Haven will not fund:
-General program operating support. A Rest Haven grant is not meant to be used for general support when other funds supporting the program have been or will be cut.
-Brick and mortar or provide funds for a capital improvement campaign.
-Salaries unless sustainability of the program for which the salaries are being requested can be demonstrated beyond the one year grant period.
-Any fringe benefits.

Pre-Application Information:

Deadline for submission: May 7, 2021.
All applicants will be notified electronically via email during the month of August as to the status of their grant request.

All grant requests must be sent both electronically via email and through the postal service to Peggy McNamara. Both must be postmarked by May 7, 2021 to be considered.

Agencies can submit a grant request for a different need or program the following year.

As these are only one-time grants, it is critical that there must be a demonstrated plan to sustain the program for which funds are being requested beyond the year the grant is awarded or funding will not be considered. For more information on sustainability, see the Frequently Asked Questions on the URL for Full Text (RFP).

Priority consideration will also be given to those agencies who, as part of their request, are seeking matching funds from other funding sources or are requesting matching funds for partial funds already committed for the same grant request being made of Rest Haven. Matching funds must be secured no later than November 30, 2021, or Rest Haven Grant funds awarded will no longer be available.
