Grants of up to $30,000 and grants of up to $50,000 to California nonprofit organizations, public agencies, and schools to benefit communities in eligible counties. Funding is intended to support programs and activities within the focus areas of recreation, arts and culture, environment, social services, community vitality, health care, youth, children, and education. Eligible applicants serve the northern California counties of Modoc, Shasta, Siskiyou, Tehama, and Trinity.

Grants are primarily awarded for the purchase of equipment or building-related projects.  Projects that can demonstrate a strong volunteer component are encouraged and generally receive preferential consideration in the grantmaking process.

Estimated Size of Grant:

While the upper limits are posted below, proposals of all sizes are highly encouraged:
- Up to $30,000 (Modoc and Trinity)
- Up to $50,000 (Shasta, Siskiyou, and Tehama)

Term of Contract:

Projects for which grant is being sought should be completed within 12 months of grant receipt. 

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Grants are awarded to:
1. Nonprofit organizations with tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code
2. Public entities (schools, districts, cities, etc.)

Organizations with a grant report past due to the Community Foundation are not eligible to apply. 

The relative strength of the proposal taken into account, priority will be given to funding organizations that have not received grants from The McConnell Fund during the past 12 months.

Grants are not awarded to or for:
-Administrative, operating, or program expenses, including personnel costs
-Budget deficits 
-Endowment funds or annual fund drives
-Essential government services
-Sectarian religious purposes
-Land purchase
