Grants of up to $50,000 to USA and Canada nonprofit organizations and schools for educational initiatives in eligible locations and focus areas. Applicants must submit an Inquiry Form to pre-qualify for an invitation to submit a full application. Funding is intended for programs that advance public safety education and STEM education, with a specific focus on technology and engineering. The Funding Source strongly prioritizes programs within North America and internationally that take place in or near the metropolitan areas of its offices, as well as the universities from which it recruits future employees.

Priority Locations within North America: Birmingham (AL), Chicagoland (IL), Dallas Area (TX), Linthicum (MD), Plantation (FL), Salt Lake City (UT), Seattle (WA), Temecula (CA), Vancouver (BC), and Westminster (CO)

The Motorola Solutions Foundation will focus its giving in three key areas: 
  1. STEM education, specifically focused on technology and engineering
  2. Public safety education
  3. Blended public safety and technology & engineering education programs

Overarching Priorities:

  • Impacts organizations with proven evaluation processes, including quantifiable metrics and outcomes, will be prioritized
  • Reaches females and other underrepresented populations
  • Engages Motorola Solutions employees
  • Leverages robust partnerships with other non-profit organizations and institutions
  • Exhibits strong organizational financial health
Technology and Engineering Education
  • Engages students in innovative, hands-on technology and engineering activities, such as coding, programming, and robotics
  • Provides vocational skills, scholarships, certifications and workforce placement opportunities in engineering and information technology
  • Helps teachers improve their teaching of technology and engineering
  • High priority will be placed on middle school-university programs
Public Safety Education
  • Provides professional development and specialized training opportunities to first responders, including wellness programs
  • Prepares youth and young adults for careers in public safety through outreach, scholarship and educational programs
  • Provides active shooter preparedness and response training to schools, adults, students, and first responders
  • Provides support programs to families of first responders
  • Leads safety and disaster preparedness trainings for the public

The Foundation does not accept applications for multiyear grants; however, many programs apply for a grant several years in a row.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Eligible Applicants:
The organization applying for grant funding must be registered as a 501(c)3 organization, NCES school or school district in the United States, or be able to provide completed charitable equivalency forms if an organization or institution outside the United States. However, organizations with different tax statuses may be part of a partnership.

Employee Engagement:
Motorola Solutions Foundation will consider strongly and prioritize programs that currently engage Motorola Solutions employees as volunteers or board members, and organizations that detail future volunteer opportunities.

Eligible Expenses:
Organizations may apply for a grant to purchase non-Motorola equipment, but equipment requests receive lower priority.

Motorola Solutions Foundation grant funds cannot be used to purchase Motorola Solutions equipment.

Pre-proposal Conference:

Motorola Solutions Foundation will host four optional informational sessions. The sessions will provide an overview of the grant program, explain 2020 priorities and answer any general questions you may have. Each call will highlight the same information, so please only select the meeting time that is most convenient for you.
