In-kind grants to multiple Southwestern USA States and northwestern Mexico organizations for seeds to plant in community benefit gardening projects. Funding is intended for programs that aim to improve the nutritional, economic, environmental, or social health of underprivileged populations in the region, while also striving to keep locally-adapted crop varieties alive and in active use in farms and gardens.
Priority is given to projects that will clearly benefit underrepresented groups.
Organizations in the arid Southwest are eligible: Arizona, New Mexico, the four corners area of Utah and Colorado, and appropriate projects in California or other regions.
Examples of successful seed grants include school gardens, demonstration gardens for seed libraries, community therapy or rehabilitation gardens, senior center gardens, and other community-oriented gardens.
GrantWatch ID#: 180621
Due to limited resources, Seed Grants are typically on the order of 10 to 30 standard seed packets, with no more than three packets of a single variety. Exceptions may be made under special circumstances, and quantities may be limited if demand is high.
Seed Grant eligibility is restricted solely to organizations operating in the Native Seeds/SEARCH region of focus: the southwestern U.S. and northwestern Mexico.
Organizations in the Southwest include Arizona, New Mexico, the four corners area of Utah and Colorado, and appropriate projects in California or other regions.
Seed Grants are not available to individuals.
