Grants ranging from $10,000 to $30,000 to Bay Area, California nonprofit organizations to provide excursions and transportation for Jewish senior citizens. Funding is intended for Jewish organizations in San Francisco, the Peninsula, and Sonoma and Marin Counties.
The Senior Mobility Initiative consists of two components: 1) Direct Transportation Assistance and 2) Senior Excursions:
Direct Transportation Assistance
Transportation is a matter of health and survival for seniors as it enables access to core activities such as medical appointments, supportive services, and grocery shopping. Direct transportation assistance allows seniors to complete independent living tasks, to attend to their medical needs, and to participate in a wide range of Jewish life by providing easier access to communal and synagogue events.
Grants made for direct transportation assistance will be prioritized for programs that:
Excursions for seniors are typically to arts, cultural, and historical events. Grant funds may be used to cover any program costs including staffing, marketing and outreach, event tickets, meals, and transportation (with the inclusion of caretakers for those who are especially frail). The Foundation expects that events will either be free or heavily subsidized for seniors, as funds are intended to mitigate both financial barriers and mobility challenges.

Interested and eligible organizations will receive $10,000 - $30,000 grants to facilitate either direct transportation assistance or excursions for seniors.
Grant terms are from February 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021. The commitment is to spread activities across a 17-month grant period and to be actively fundraising to support programs after June 2021.
