Grant Description
Grants of up to $2,500 to California microbusinesses and nonprofit organizations in eligible regions for Coronavirus (COVID-19) recovery efforts. Funding is intended to compensate for business closures and lost revenue and to assist with permit acquisition, equipment purchase, and debt payments. Eligible businesses are located in Butte County.

The California Microbusiness COVID-19 Relief Grant Program (MBCRG) was created in 2021 to assist qualified microbusinesses that have been significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic in California. Microbusiness owners who are awarded a MBCRG grant will self-certify that funds will be used for one or more of the following eligible uses:

  • The purchase of new certified equipment including, but not limited to, a cart.
  • Investment in working capital.
  • Application for, or renewal of, a local permit including, but not limited to, a permit to operate as a sidewalk vendor.
  • Payment of business debt accrued due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Costs resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic and related health and safety restrictions, or business interruptions or closures incurred as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Additional Eligibility Criteria
A microbusiness must satisfy the following criteria to be eligible to receive a grant from the MBCRG program :
- Active businesses operating since at least December 31, 2019.
- The microbusiness is currently active and operating.
- The microbusiness was significantly impacted by COVID-19 pandemic.
- The microbusiness had less than fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) in revenues in the 2019 taxable year.
- The microbusiness currently has fewer than five full-time equivalent employees and had fewer than five full-time equivalent employees in the 2019 and 2020 taxable years.
- The microbusiness owner can provide acceptable form of government-issued photo ID (state, domestic, or foreign) and documentation that includes the owner’s name may include but is not limited to the following: a local business permit or license, a bank statement, a tax return, a trade account, a self-attestation/self-certification done under penalty of perjury.
- The microbusiness owner must be the majority-owner and manager of the qualified microbusiness and the owner’s primary means of income in the 2019 taxable year.
- The microbusiness owner did not receive a grant under the California Small Business COVID-19 Relief Grant Program.

Eligible non-profit organizations must be registered as 501(c)3, 501(c)6, or 501(c)19 and must meet the definition of a “Qualified Microbusiness” found above.

This is a first-come-first-serve program. The application period will remain active through May 31, 2023, or until funds have been fully disbursed.
