Fellowships of up to $12,000 to USA graduate students, historians, journalists, and authors for new historical research on eligible topics. Fellows will perform research leading to the publication of an essay or article to appear in a magazine, website, newspaper, book, or academic publication. The recipients of the fellowship will perform original document research from the National Archives on women’s history.

The research and publication will be featured in a National Archives public program in the William G. McGowan Theater at the National Archives Museum and online through National Archives and Foundation channels.

The Cokie Roberts Research Fund for Women’s History will support one to three annual fellowships.

The official fellowship period will take place from May 1 through October 30, 2021.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must be currently enrolled in a graduate degree program or be an early-career journalist or author with proven writing skills, demonstrated passion for U.S. history and women’s rights and the ability to perform in-person research at a National Archives facility. Applicants will be able to work remotely and be based anywhere in the U.S.

Pre-Application Information:

Applications are due to the National Archives Foundation by March 12, 2021 and the fellowship will be announced May 1, 2021.
