Awards to California developers, brokers, contractors, and architects in eligible counties to recognize the best real estate transactions and development projects. Winners will be selected based on significance. Nominated projects must be located in the funding source's coverage area: the counties of San Francisco, San Mateo, Alameda, Contra Costa, and Marin.

The San Francisco Business Times is looking for the following types of deals and projects, but please note that most winners do not have categories. Only superlatives have categories. All other winners are general winners. That said, applicants are requested to fill out a category when they apply so nominations can be organized:

  • Community Impact Project (lease, sale, new development or renovation)
  • Flip (real estate transaction noteworthy for the profit the seller made on it - residential, retail, office or other)
  • Hotel Deal (new hotels or hotel sales)
  • Industrial Deal
  • Infrastructure Deal/Public-Private Partnership
  • Land Deal
  • New Office Development¬†
  • Office Lease or Sublease
  • Office Building/Complex Sale
  • Public or Cultural projects completed in 2020
  • Health Space (hospital or clinic)¬†
  • R&D/Lab Space Deal (development, sale or lease)
  • Rehab/Renovation
  • Residential Deal, Affordable (new multifamily projects)
  • Residential Deal, Market-Rate (new multifamily projects or project sales)
  • Retail Deal (sale or lease of space or new project)

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Every year brokers, developers, architects, contractors and others in the development community submit their biggest, best and most complex projects throughout the Bay Area for consideration in this awards program.

Deals/projects are eligible for nomination if:
- In the case of a development, the development was completed in calendar year 2021, meaning a certificate of occupancy was issued in 2021; or
- In the case of a transaction (such as a sale or lease), the transaction closed in calendar year 2021.
- Nominated projects must be located in the Business Times' coverage area: the counties of San Francisco, San Mateo, Alameda, Contra Costa and Marin counties. Projects located in San Jose, Santa Clara, Mountain View or other parts of California will NOT be considered.

Please note the deadline for submitting entries for this year's competition is midnight on January 14, 2022.

The San Francisco Business Times will highlight the winners in a special publication published in late April 2022.
